As it usually happens, as soon as a new smartphone is released, prices of the older models start to drop. It’s a very common practice which is aimed at moving as many units of predecessors as possible before customers completely lose interest in those variants. That’s exactly what we are witnessing right now with iPhones. Two days after the iPhone SE was unveiled, Sprint confirmed that pre-sale would begin on March 24th. At the same time, the carrier announced that you can have the iPhone 6S for as low as $13 per month on lease.
Sprint confirmed that it will be carrying Apple’s super cheap iPhone SE. However, if you are still in the market for the older iPhone 6S, you will be able to save big if you opt for lease.
This new price is the result of the carrier’s 50% off plan which cuts your current Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T bill in half. Since the offer also extends to lease option, the iPhone 6S regular price of $26.39 a month was slashed to just $13.19 a month. The lease period normally lasts 18 months, however, with iPhone Forever early upgrade program, you can grab a new model of Apple’s smartphone after only 12 months.
Monthly cost of the plan and access fee for one line range from $32.50 to $40. If you add lease cost, you get between $45.67 and $53.17 per month. That’s $46, $46.42 and $53.91 less than what you would have to pay if you bought the iPhone 6S on AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon, respectively. If you multiply the cost by 12 months, the savings will amount to $552 compared to AT&T, $557.04 compared to T-Mobile and as much as $646.92 if you chose Verizon.
The iPhone SE, one the other hand, will set you back $399 for the base 16GB model and $499 for a more capacious 64GB version. The iPhone SE packs basically the same specs as the iPhone 6S but it’s significantly smaller – it features a 4-inch display. The device is powered by the A9 chip with M9 motion coprocessor which works with such sensors as accelerometer, compass and gyroscope. The phone is also equipped with a great 12-megapixel iSight camera with 4K video capture and Live Photos as well as FaceTime HD camera with Retina Flash. Other key features include Touch ID, faster LTE and Wi-Fi and voice-activated Siri.
The iPhone SE will start shipping on March 31 and in addition to Sprint, it will be carrier by Verizon and US Cellular. All carriers will open pre-orders tomorrow, March 24, at 12:01 a.m.
